Safety and security training certificates that can't be faked

A construction worker with a forged crane operating certificate. A security guard with a fabricated weapons handling diploma. A fire safety inspector whose training certificate was bought online. If your organisation issues safety or security training certificates, the format you choose is not a technology decision. It is a safety decision.

TL;DR

A safety training certificate can only be trusted if the person checking it can reach the issuer without your help. Scanning a QR code or opening a printed verification link should load a page naming the holder, the training and the date, in seconds, on a phone, at a site gate. Blockchain-secured certificates take that one step further: the document is compared against a cryptographic record written at issuance, so a single altered character breaks the match and the check fails rather than passing quietly. Paper and PDF cannot do this, because a forged copy looks identical to the real thing and the usual fallback, calling the training provider, is slow enough that it gets skipped under time pressure. For issuers this shifts the burden: instead of answering verification requests one at a time, the certificate answers them itself.

Why can't a paper or PDF safety certificate be trusted?

Because a convincing copy is trivial to make and nothing inside the document points back to you. A forged safety training certificate looks identical to a real one, and the only check available is a phone call to the training provider, which is slow, manual and routinely skipped when a contractor is standing at the gate.

In safety-critical work an unverified certificate is not an administrative inconvenience. The consequences are measured in injuries, not only in fines.

How big is the risk from unchecked safety credentials?

Two things have to be true at once for it to matter, and both are. The work is genuinely dangerous, with construction alone accounting for roughly a quarter of all workplace deaths in the EU. And the checking is patchy, with most employers not verifying every qualification a candidate claims while fraudulent applications rise.

How does a TRUE safety certificate verify itself?

Every certificate issued through TRUE carries a unique cryptographic fingerprint, a SHA-256 hash, written to a blockchain at the moment of issue. A site manager, a client, an auditor or a regulator scans the QR code or opens the link, and the verification page answers in seconds.

No phone calls. No waiting.

If the certificate is genuine and unaltered, verification passes. If anything has been changed, even one character, verification fails. There is no middle result for a sophisticated fake to hide in.
