Why do healthcare credentials need independent verification?
Because the person checking is rarely the person who issued. A hospital onboarding a locum, an agency placing a nurse and a regulator auditing a ward all need to confirm training without a phone call to your office, often out of hours. How common is medical credential fraud?
Common enough to have produced a federal enforcement action running across several years. The largest documented case in nursing involved thousands of fake diplomas from a handful of schools, and the buyers used those documents to sit the national licensing exam. - More than 7,600 fake nursing diplomas and transcripts were sold by three Florida nursing schools. The US Department of Justice charged 25 defendants on 25 January 2023 in the enforcement action known as Operation Nightingale. Buyers used the documents to qualify for the national nursing licensure exam.
