How NyTeknik Education turned a box tick into an ambassador

NyTeknik Education builds courses for professionals. Its certificates used to be something to get through, not something the business got anything back from.

TL;DR: NyTeknik Education is the education arm of NyTeknik Group and builds course concepts for professional audiences together with subject experts. Certificates used to be printed and handed out in the classroom, or offered as a PDF download after a pre recorded course. The company calls that an administrative task to tick off rather than something useful. Issuing now takes minutes, and it can see which participants put their certificate to work in public.

Anna Siden is a product developer and project manager at NyTeknik Education, where every course is built alongside the specialists who know the material. Recent work runs to information security, protective security legislation and export control. There is a full day conference on industrial AI too.

How were certificates handled before TRUE?

Printed and handed over, or downloadable, depending on the course format. Neither version asked anything of the company beyond producing the file and getting it to the right person.

Anna Siden, Product Developer and Project Manager, NyTeknik Education

“We usually made printed course certificates and diplomas that were handed out physically in the classroom, or PDFs that participants could download after finishing the course if it was one of our pre recorded ones.”

Anna Siden, Product Developer and Project Manager, NyTeknik Education

What was wrong with that?

Two things, and the second is one very few training providers will put into words. Siden does, without hedging.

“It became an administrative thing to tick off more than something that was useful to us. And there was not really a good way for us to use our customers and participants to increase our visibility, beyond the occasional quote in marketing.”

Anna Siden, Product Developer and Project Manager, NyTeknik Education

A course certificate has always had two possible readers: the participant who wants proof, and everybody that participant might show it to. A printed sheet only ever reaches the first, so the document costs the provider work and returns nothing measurable. That is how a certificate ends up on the list of things to get through rather than things to invest in.

What changed?

Issuing dropped to a few minutes, and the company gained a view it had never had. Siden can follow a certificate after it leaves and see who chooses to put theirs in front of an audience. A document NyTeknik Education used to file became one it can measure.

“The simplicity. It does not take many minutes to issue new certificates and diplomas, and we can follow which participants really use their certificate to be visible. They become ambassadors for us and our products.”

Anna Siden, Product Developer and Project Manager, NyTeknik Education

A participant who publishes a certificate from a course in protective security legislation tells their own network two things at once. What they now know, and who taught them. NyTeknik Education never commissioned that and never asked for a testimonial. The document it already owed the participant did the work, which is the effect we set out in ambassador marketing.

What would NyTeknik Education like to see next?

An integration it does not have yet, and Siden is specific about it. She wants an API connection between the diplomas in TRUE and the company’s WordPress course portal, where the pre recorded courses live, so issuing runs automatically from there. Without it the company runs two systems. She says plainly they would rather run fully with TRUE. The request is recorded as she made it. For what the interface supports today, see the TRUE API.
