Precision, and no new work. Every process at Karolinska Institutet has to be traceable and built to last, and the certificate at the end of a course is not exempt from that. What it cannot be is a project of its own.
Carina Bois is Learning Technologist at KI. When she was asked to rethink how the university issues its course certificates, she did not go looking for the most impressive product.

“Neither of them really matched the way we work, or the level of clarity and control we needed.”
That sentence is worth sitting with, because it is not a complaint about features. Both products work. Neither fitted a university that already had a way of doing things and did not intend to change it for a document.
Two, and KI treated both as non negotiable. The certificate had to carry the participant's name and course text the university could edit. And it had to work inside Canvas, the learning platform KI already runs.
Some tools offered flexibility and charged for it in complexity. Carina names the cost of that directly.
“Our teachers and administrators do not have time to wrestle with software. And students should never have to wonder about the certificate they receive.”
Read the second half. She is describing the recipient's experience as a requirement on the issuer's system, which is not how most institutions specify a document.
The administration disappeared into the course. TRUE connects directly to Canvas, so when a participant completes a course the certificate is issued and sent automatically. No printing, no chasing signatures, no separate system to remember.

Over a thousand course certificates have gone out that way since the switch. The measure of the change is not the count. It is that nobody at KI has to think about it.
Because of what the certificate lets someone do. When a healthcare professional presents proof of training, the stakes are clinical. The person checking is deciding whether to let someone near a patient, a procedure or a set of instructions, and they need an answer that does not depend on whether KI answers the phone.
A certificate from Karolinska Institutet also carries weight far outside Sweden, which is precisely why it is worth forging. Proof that anyone can check, in seconds, is the only version of that document that survives contact with an international job market.
Carina answered that one without pausing.
“We would go back to a very manual world. It is easy to forget how much time it used to take.”
She is glad that part is behind her, and says no serious university should be stuck in that kind of workflow. For an institution that tested the alternatives before choosing, that is a stronger statement than any feature list.
