TL;DR: HLR Proffsen issues a certificate to every participant who completes a course. That used to mean a printed sheet handed over in the room. The certificate now arrives digitally through TRUE the moment the training ends, and the company reports more brand exposure on social media than it had before, because a certificate people can share is a certificate people share.
HLR Proffsen is a small Swedish training company. Klara Axén sits in the middle of it, handling administration, some of the invoicing, the marketing and the certificates. Everyone who finishes a course gets one of those.
It printed them. A participant finished the course and somebody put a sheet of paper in their hand on the way out, which works until the sheet goes missing. Paper goes missing constantly. It goes in a drawer, then in a box, then in a move, and the person who earned it has nothing to show an employer two years later.
Axén fits the before and the after into one sentence.

“After completing a training with us, you always receive a certificate. Before TRUE, our customers received the certificate on paper, in hand, at the end of the training. Today they receive the certificate via TRUE digitally, straight away when the training ends.”
Nothing. A customer who wants the certificate on a wall still prints it, and Axén says so in the same breath as the environmental case for sending it digitally. What changed is who decides to print.
“Environmentally, it is definitely better to be able to send the certificates digitally, and it is easy for the customer to print it out if they want to hang it on the wall.”

Reach. A paper certificate goes home in a bag and stops there, while a digital one goes wherever the person who earned it decides to put it. For HLR Proffsen that turned out to be social media, and the company could see it happening.
“We have found that we have gained greater brand exposure on social media since we started using digital certificates, which is fantastic!”
Klara Axén, Administrator and Sales Representative, HLR Proffsen
Every participant who posts a certificate names the company that trained them, in front of an audience HLR Proffsen never had to buy. The document was being produced anyway. Making it shareable is the whole of what turned it into a channel, which is the argument we set out at length in why a certificate is a marketing channel.
Little enough to sit beside invoicing and marketing. Axén handles all three, so a slow certificate process would show up in her week immediately, and this one does not. She sums it up in three words.
“It is simple, fast, and efficient to deliver certificates to customers. So easy for them to use and share.”
Klara Axén, Administrator and Sales Representative, HLR Proffsen
One thing, and it is specific. The company name is tied to an email address, which gets awkward when the same contact person turns up at several companies. HLR Proffsen works around it by asking for a private address instead. The request is recorded here because it is theirs, not because it has been solved.
HLR Proffsen publishes its courses on its own site: HLR Proffsen. For what else can be issued the same way, see the TRUE feature overview or the rest of the TRUE case studies. Another training company whose certificates started working for the brand once participants could share them: Branschutbildarna.
On paper. Every participant who completed a training was handed a printed certificate in the room at the end of the session.
Straight away. It is issued digitally through TRUE at the moment the training ends, rather than printed and handed out.
Yes. HLR Proffsen points out that a customer can print the certificate themselves if they want it on a wall. The difference is who decides to print, not whether printing is possible.
Brand reach. The company says it has gained greater brand exposure on social media since it started issuing digital certificates, because participants share them.
